Walk That Dog

Featuring: Lance Lynch
Running Time: 14 minutes, 30 seconds
1974 Tyler Turkle

This is a b&w documentary of a yo-yo contest in Ohio.   Turkle showed up with his camera unannounced and ad-libbed his way through the film.

It begins with Turkle reading a Duncan poster that is displayed in a drug store window.  The poster states that there will be a yo-yo contest held there that day.  At that moment Lynch arrives in his car.  Turkle introduces himself to Lynch, then interviews a boy and asks him to do some tricks.  Lynch explains how he travels around the country holding contests and teaching tricks.  He does a few tricks, including rock the baby, skin the cat, and brain twister.  Lynch then teaches some kids a few tricks.  Turkle interviews a few more kids as well as a parent.

Lynch begins the contest, with the winners being the kids who could do the most loops.  He gives the top three kids prizes, which are patches and Duncan yo-yos.   Lynch then puts the poster from the store window into his trunk, says he has to go to another contest, gets in his car, and drives off.

This film is a great piece of Americana.  Some of Turkle's lines are funny, especially when he talks to the kid that just had a tooth pulled.  The film is currently available on video from Infinite Illusions.
