This is a promotional film which was distributed free to promotional directors. I came across this film in my local library and had it transferred to video. I believe this film is from 1971, but it is hard to make out the opening title (see pic above). Steve Brown told me his best guess at a date is the early 70's. The film is narrated by Hugh Douglas, and also features Jack Bozung, "recreational coordinator", Phyllis Kelsey, "recreational leader", and the Spin Toppers, a group of kids used as extras. Here's the film in a nutshell: Ken demonstrates how to wind a top and the proper way to throw it. Phyllis then goes over the contest trick list (see list below). Ken and the Spin Toppers demonstrate the tricks while the narrator explains how to do them. The tricks are shown in slow motion but are only shown once and explained very fast. An "official Duncan target shoot", a cardboard circle, was used for the target shoot trick. A twin split top was used for the double trouble trick. The narrator gives a brief history of spin tops. A contest kit is shown which includes the target shoot, several spin tops and patches, a rule book, and a contest sign. Jack and Phyllis go over the contest rules. Trick List:1. spinner |
