This is my favorite yo-yo video. The Smothers Brothers' comic flair makes it very entertaining to watch. There is a story of sorts involving Tom and his quest to transform himself from a nobody to a somebody by achieving the State of Yo. He enlists the help of the yo-yo master, Daniel Volk, to accomplish this. Dick is the story teller of Tom's adventure. He also narrates the trick descriptions. First, some basic yo-yo stuff is covered, including stringing a yo-yo, tying the knot, creating a loop, placement on the finger, twisting and winding, throwing and retrieving, string tension, and string replacement. There is also a lesson in yo-yo safety A number of basic tricks are then demonstrated (see trick list). These are done very well. Volk first does a trick and then Tom repeats it. Each trick is shown in slow motion. The loop the loop demonstration is done exceptionally well. There is a slo mo close up shot of Volk's hand so you can see exactly how he flips his wrist. Volk and Tom then demonstrate a number of more complicated tricks. There is no narrative description for these, but they are repeated in slow motion, so it is not too hard to figure out how they are done. Volk's version of the roller coaster is really nifty, especially when you consider it is done with a fixed wooden axle. I won't tell you how the story ends, but it's a happy one. Overall this is a very fun video even non yo-yo enthusiasts will enjoy. Trick List:
