Arne Dixon's Yo-Yo Extravaganza - How to Yo-Yo

Featuring: Arne Dixon
Running Time: 43 minutes
1992 Duncan/Arne Dixon Entertainment Inc.

This is a repackaged version of Arne's 1990 video.  He licensed it to Duncan and additional footage was added (the clip of the Duncan demonstrators, the history of the yo-yo segment, the visit to the Hall of Fame, and the Duncan commercial).   Part of this review was copied from the review of the original video.

This video starts off with a horrible song while Arne does some tricks which he later demonstrates in detail.  You might want to put your t.v. on mute for a minute or two until the song finishes.  Next, Arne introduces himself and explains the basics of string length and tying the loop.

Arne then explains the hitch (triple loop), which is used so the yo-yo doesn't sleep.  He then demonstrates 5 tricks with a hitch (see list below), then shows how to remove the hitch, wind the string, tighten the string, and then demonstrates 5 tricks without a hitch.

After this there is a very quick clip of five Duncan demonstrators.   I'm not sure who they are or when it's from, but the clip looks to be from the 1940's or 50's.  Next comes a segment on the history of the yo-yo.  This is the same piece that is used in How to be an Expert with Tom Parks (see review).  After this Arne tells a little about himself and his career as a yo-yo demonstrator.

Arne then does a few more tricks and shows off some of his yo-yo collection.  Most of what he shows is contemporary stuff.  I'm guessing he left the good stuff at home.  After this it's on to the yo-yo hall of fame.

The yo-yo hall of fame consists of a wall full of the then current Duncan line, the imperial, midnight special, neo, gold award, butterfly, professional, wheel, glow imperial, sattelite, and mel-yo-dee.   The wall is pretty cool looking.   While in the hall of fame Arne does more tricks showcasing each of the different Duncan yo-yos.  The video ends with a Duncan televison commercial.

There are enough tricks in this video to get a beginner started.   Plus, Arne gives an energetic, entertaining performance.  The cheesy sound effects add to the experience, making this video very watchable.  The video comes with Arne Dixon's yo-yo extravaganza instructional yo-yo trick sheet.
