There is no author listed for this book. The back inside cover indicates three toy/antique stores as the contributors. As a collector's guide this book is virtual worthless. Besides yo-yos and various tops, gyroscopes and miscellaneous spinning toys are also featured. The yo-yos are catagorized into seven groups, wooden, metal, plastic, Duncan, wood and metal advertising, plastic advertising, and character, so you can imagine what kind of a big mess this creates. There is virtually no description for any yo-yo except for what's written on the seal. No dates of manufacture are given. The majority of the yo-yos are listed as being "average size", whatever that means. There are only 44 pages dedicated to yo-yos and related items, 4 or less on each page. The top section contains lots of beautiful stuff, especially the "plunger tops". There are some nice gyroscopes and some pretty cool looking miscellaneous spinning toys as well. Overall, this book isn't worth the price. But if you enjoy looking at pictures of vintage toys and are able to find the book for a couple of bucks it may be worth it. |
